Today I am sharing my favorite lash primers for long lashes! I want to start by saying that I am in NO WAY a beauty or makeup professional. I just enjoy beauty products of all kinds and love playing with makeup (when I have the time). This is my experience using lash primers, and I wanted to share what has worked for me.
What is a lash primer?
A lash primer is typically a white mascara that is applied prior to using your favorite everyday mascara. They not only condition your lashes, but they add dramatic length and volume to them. In my experience, it also helps with a mascaras wear time as well (holds a curl better, no clumps, not much flakiness, etc.). Sounds high maintenance, right? Well, because it kind of is really. I NEVER imagined using one because it was going to be another step in my routine (NOTE: if I have 2 seconds to get ready, sadly I’m skipping primer). However, it makes a world of a difference. And I highly suggest trying one out.
When applying a lash primer, I like to curl my lashes beforehand. While I’m blessed with pretty long lashes naturally, they don’t curl at all. They are pin straight! Therefore, I use an eyelash curler to lift them and open up my small, hooded eyes.
I then proceed to using my lash primer. I typically apply 1-2 coats. Make sure you go from the root to the tip of your lashes and wiggle that wand through!
Once it’s applied, don’t fret if you look a little weird LOL. Let the primer dry slightly. You don’t want it to completely dry. Just make sure it’s dry enough but that there’s still some tackiness to it.
Follow Up by applying 1-2 (or 3!) coats of your favorite mascara!
Favorite Lash Primers For Long Lashes
I have tried a few lash primers and by far these are my 2 faves! I do prefer one more than the other. However, they perform pretty similarly.
By far, this one is my absolute favorite! This one checks all the boxes for me. It adds length, volume, fans out the lashes, holds my curl, conditions and keeps my lashes free of clumps. Seriously, this stuff is insane!!!! It is pricey, which is why I waited for the big Ulta 21 days of beauty sale to purchase it. I got it for $13! When it’s usually $26. So definitely wait for a sale if you’re on a budget.
There’s a travel sized option which cost less than the full size. This is a good option is you really want to try this one without spending the $26! I was using the travel sized one I got back in December, and just recently ran out. A little goes a long way!
You can purchase the Lancome Lash Primer at Ulta, Sephora, Macys, and several other retailers and department stores.
If you want a pretty good drugstore option this one is my favorite affordable one. However, in my experience, it adds visible fibers to the tips of my lashes. While that sounds great, it doesn’t look as nice. My lashes tend to look a bit more on the “spidery” side when I use this one. I’m not sure if it’s the mascaras I use. I will definitely look into it! And my curl isn’t as strong all day long. But hey it still works! This one retails for under $10 and it’s a great place to start with lash primers.
You can purchase the L’Oreal Lash Primer at Ulta, Target, CVS, Walgreens, and several other retailers.
